The QCVA
The Queensland Charter Vessel Association (QCVA) was established in 1982 as a peak representative body for Queensland's aquatic charter tourism industry. QCVA undertakes government representation on behalf of the industry, develops best industry practice guidelines, manages co-operative marketing campaigns, fosters training and career path programs, and co-ordinates industry support of marine environment management programs.

Membership
QCVA Membership is open vessel operators and employees from all sectors of the aquatic charter tourism industry including calm water tours, fishing, bareboat charters, diving and luxury vessels. Affiliate Membership is open to other Aquatic Tourism Associations and their members involved in the industry, and service providers to the industry are eligible for Associate Membership. Request a QCVA Membership Kit from David Joyce at info@qcva.com.au.

Representation
QCVA retains and actively pursues positions on key relevant State and Federal government advisory committees including the Commonwealth's - Eastern Tuna MAC, Queensland Fisheries - Fishing Industry Development Council (FIDC), and Reef MAC and the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority's - Fisheries Reef Advisory Council (FRAC). Working relationships are maintained with the QLD Fisheries Service, Department of Transport, Environmental Protection Agency, Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, Department of Health, and the regional tourism organisations.

Industry Best Practices
QCVA plays a pivotal role in the development of current Industry Code of Practice and Code of Conduct. Codes provide minimum guidelines for the industry in operational areas including work place health and safety, vessel maintenance, customer service, habitat protection and sustainable marine animal catches. QCVA also develops and encourages the adoption of a range of regional/specific industry voluntary Codes of Practice that precede or exceed government guidelines.

Education
QCVA is committed to both industry and consumer education programs. For the aquatic tourism industry the QCVA is co-ordinating the development of technical, customer service, business management and environmental courses. Supported by an online resource of recruitment services, fact sheet libraries and e-course products. For the public, QCVA is supporting a range of educational workshops and on-water activities, plus playing a major role in supporting school based marine environment.

Marketing
A new co-operative marketing mission by the aquatic tourism industry is a focus of the QCVA. Co-operating with regional tourism organisations the Association is developing an Internet site, and plans a series of co-operative consumer show stands, brochures and CD-ROM's; supported by a booking and information service centre. The new Internet site qcva.com.au will promote Queensland as a h2o adventure destination, and profile individual operators, regions and activities.

Environment
Balanced and sustainable use of the marine environment by all sectors of the aquatic tourism industry is a key mission of the Queensland Charter Vessel Association. The QCVA aims to become a key partner in marine conservation initiatives through co-operative arrangements with marine research organisations to fund and manage industry supported projects. Under these partnerships the QCVA will participate in research programs to develop proactive approaches to managing the habitat, develop interpretative programs, increase environmental education within the industry; and foster greater participation by children in marine recreational activities to promote better understanding of the ocean environment.
